Company Information and History
Background
MannVend is a family-owned business employing 30 staff that has been run by three generations of the Leahy family. Established in 1967 as Mannin Tea and Coffee, we imported tea and coffee which was blended, roasted and packed to suit the Manx water. We began selling vending machines in 1969 and became MannVend in 1990.
We have a customer base ranging from schools, banks, government departments, offices, restaurants and even private homes and have supplied over 5,000 refreshment solutions (including hot drinks machines, can machines, snack machines and food machines) on the Island, serving over 35,000 drinks a day.
What we supply
• refreshment systems to any workplace from offices of 5 to factories of 500
• bottled water and plumbed water coolers
• catering coffee machines and hot drinks equipment
• coffee Beans, specialist teas, gourmet cookies, smoothies, syrups
• barista training
• kiddies rides
Our Strategy
Our Vision is “To provide refreshment solutions that are second to none whilst making it easy for our customers to do business with us” and we set clear strategic and departmental objectives for how we intend to achieve this at the start of every year. These are communicated to our staff through presentations, posters, management and department meetings.
What makes us different - Innovation
In 2008, we launched a new concept of selling advertising space on our own plastic vending cups. For the advertiser, this gives a unique opportunity to advertise products and services to a captive market through the hot drinks machines on all of our operated sites. On average, people consume two or three drinks during their working day so the message is being seen several times a day for up to six weeks on a standard cup print run.
UK Associations
Membership of our trade association the AVA (Automatic Vending Association) and buying group AVS (Associated Vending Services) helps keep us abreast of trends and developments in the vending industry on a national scale whilst also benefiting from the economies that the buying group afford us.

Our Managing Director Tracey Leahy has been elected onto various UK committees within these organisations and our Chairman Brian Leahy is the Chairman of AVS, our buying group.

Customer Care – Accreditation to ISO 9001/2008
We are accredited by the Lloyds Register for Quality Assurance for ISO 9001/2008 Quality Management System, and particular reference is always given to our exceptional standard of customer care. This is just one element that makes our business stand out from the rest.
Certification to ISO 9001 gives assurance to our customers & suppliers that we provide quality products and services assessed at an international standard.
We welcome opportunities to improve our performance and although complaints are rare, we do use them as opportunities to put things right and prevent the same problem happening again. Every complaint is logged within the quality system and dealt with by the management team and finally where appropriate will always result in a personal phone call or letter from the Managing Director.
Ra Ra days....
One popular example of our “hands on” customer service is that we carry out RaRa days. Our promotions team give away prizes and educate the end user about the coffee or products being sold. This is particularly popular at sites that sell Rainforest Alliance or Fair Trade coffee.
Barista Training
We’ve introduced Barista Training to ensure our catering customers know all the latest
techniques for making espresso based drinks and latte art.
Satellite Tracking
Adding satellite tracking devices to all our vehicles helps us with Route Management
to ensure that calls are being allocated to those closest to our customer sites.
Make it Easy
We have introduced the “Make it easy” philosophy to encourage our staff to go the extra mile to make things easier for customers to deal with us
Our achievements
MannVend have won a number of industry awards which are testimony to our excellence compared to other comparable organisations within the vending industry. These awards, along with the positive feedback from our customers, allows us to benchmark our achievements against similar organisations.
2006 Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence Organisation of the Year
2007 Tracey Leahy, ‘Member of the Year’ at the AVS Group Awards
2008 ‘Best Operator’ in the UK Vending Industry
2008 Award for innovation for “Advertising on the Vending Cups”
Environmental Issues
As we become more aware of our carbon footprint we have implemented ways to reduce our carbon emissions, such as encouraging our customers to recycle their plastic cups; installing a satellite navigation system to all company vehicles to thus saving on fuel; installing a recycling station at work for all recyclable consumables; sending all cardboard to a local recycling company and encouraging can recycling through Alucan. We have also designed a recycling unit for vending machines
MannVend continues to support sustainability in two ways; by offering our customers a range of FairTrade and Rainforest Alliance sustainable products but also by supporting local businesses in sourcing as many stocks and services from the Island’s community as is practicable and available. We work alongside the Fair Trade steering committee to achieve and maintain the Fair Trade Island Status.
